Coaxial Cables

Regular Ethernet standards (10 Mbits/sec)
1	10Base5	10 Mbit/sec	500 m	RG8	First Ethernet standard. "Thick Ethernet" standard mostly out of use today. Suffix 5 denotes maximum length of cable - 500 meters. Standard released in 1980 by DIX (DEC, Intel, and Xerox colaboration). Designed for bus topoogy and for use with RG8 cable.
2	10Base2	10 Mbit/sec	185 m	RG58	DIX Ethernet II standard or Thin Ethernet released in 1982. "Thin Ethernet" standard, counterpart of old "Thick Ethernet", mostly out of use today. Suffix 2 denotes maximum length of cable - 185 meters (not 200 meters!). Designed for bus topoogy and for use with RG58 cable.

UTP Cables

Regular Ethernet standards (10 Mbits/sec)
1	10BaseT	10 Mbit/sec	100 m	Categoty 3 UTP	IEEE 802.3 standard released in 1985 that replaced thick and thin Ethetnet. Uses UTP cable.
Fast Ethernet Standards (100 Mbits/sec)
2	100BaseT4	100 Mbit/sec	100 m	Categoty 3 UTP	Uses all of 4 pairs. Suffix "4" reminds that all four pairs of UTP cable are used in transmitting data. Use of all pairs lets mount categoty 3 cable, mostly used in 10 Mbits/sec regular Ethernet, for Fast Ethernet networks.
