Apartment Renting Questions and Answers

  1. Check kind of parking space available:

    Parking space should be roomish and roofed. If not your car will be exposed to sun lights part of day you would feel very uncomfortable inside when you move in. If parking place is small you would have greater probability to scratch another car during parking or your car can be scratched when another car parking by your car.

  2. Do you really like this apartment?:

    Details

    Don't hurry when signing a leasing contract. Look into the window - do you see grim wall or you see a nice landscape? It makes a difference. Is it? Is your future kitchen in a separate room or exposed to living room. Modern apartment planning suppose the latest. Look into the closets. They should be large enough in order you can come in and come out. Look into the bathroom. Unlike Europe, American bathtabs are small there is almost nothing to do here, but bathroom should have large mirror and be large itself. Mention that you can rent almost for the same price apartment with patio and study and without it. Do you like to live in one-story or two-story apartment?

  3. What about shopping and recriation facilities in apartment area?:

    For sure it is better to have shopping mall in your neiborhood, and if your apartment in green area you can enjoy jogging in the evening.

  4. What about trash pick-up? Have an apartment with this service available:

    Even expensive $700-1000 apartments can have this service unavailable. Imagine yourself dragging large bag of trash to the closest trash pick-up for 200 feet!

  5. Do you like to have microoven, refregirator, washer and dryer preinstalled?:

    Details

    Some goog apartments don't have washer/dryer connections, check it.

  6. What about utility bills?:

    Price for the same two apartments can be the same, but one apartment leaser can pay in full utility bills: electricity, phone, and cable TV, another not? This is not a rule in common, but this is a check point.

  7. Are there any discounts?:

    Ask for discounts. Monthly rent depends on leasing term. 12 month rates are less then 7 month rates. Some appartments offers one-two month "free" living for letting moving in easy.

  8. What is amount of security deposit? Is it refundable?:

    Details

    Choose as small security deposit as possible. It varies hundreds dollars and can be partially unrefundable.

  9. Do you need child care for your children?:

    Details

    Check wheather you can find child care center close to your location.

  10. What about sunlight beaming into your eyes when you driving to your apartment?:

    Details

    It could be a hard time when you driving in the morning to your job if sun is hanging directly before your eyes. It could even make harder to distingwish traffic lights wheather you are wearing sunglasses or not. The same conditions could be when you are returning to your apartment from your job. It is better to have an apartment on the Earst then on the West from office location!
